Are you searching for inspiring writer retreat in Europe where you can truly focus on your craft? Tucked away in the breathtaking landscape of mid Wales in the UK, the Writers’ Cabin writer’s retreat offers a creative sanctuary for writers, artists, and deep thinkers who crave the space and silence to kindle inspiration.
A Unique Writer’s Escape
The Writers’ Cabin isn’t your average self-catering getaway. Unlike anonymous Airbnbs, this independent retreat offers personal touches, thoughtful flourishes, and a welcoming atmosphere from the moment you arrive. Traveling by rail? We’ll pick you up from Machynlleth train station, and we aim to personally greet all guests who stay with us.
Here’s what makes the Writers’ Cabin extra special:
Designed with Writers in Mind
Every detail of the cabin has been chosen for productivity and comfort:
Ergonomic chair that will look after your back over long writing sessions
Laptop stand, USB keyboard, and mouse so you don’t have to haul them from home
Yoga mat for movement breaks between writing stints
Peaceful surroundings with breathtaking nature on your doorstep (Eryri/Snowdonia National Park is a stone’s throw away)
Sauna for embodied practice so you can sweat out the small stuff
Complimentary Bottle of Poetry Pharmacy pills to unlock any writer’s block
Curated Bookshelf to Spark Creativity
Forget mainstream bestsellers. In the Cabin, you’ll find hand-picked titles chosen to inspire your creative process. We’ve even sourced recommendations from authors including Austin Kleon and poetry pharmacist Deborah Alma, so there’s always something interesting to dip into.
Local Craftsmanship & Organic Touches
We collaborate with artists and makers in the Dyfi Valley to give the space its warm, handcrafted feel. Sip your coffee out of hand-thrown mugs from Ceramics by Nicola and enjoy the everlasting floral arrangement by Sarah Breese Design.
Community Connection
Each guest receives discount vouchers to spend at independent businesses in nearby Machynlleth, including Pen’rallt Gallery and Bookshop and The Hermit Crab Coffee Shop. Coffee and books. What’s not to love? These places aren’t just shops—they’re part of the creative energy of the area where you’ll be guaranteed to receive a warm welcome.
Relax and Reset with a Sauna Session
We know that writing can be cerebral. That’s why each stay includes a private, complimentary sauna session, encouraging you to reconnect with your body and return to your writing renewed and refreshed, remembering that you’re more than just ten fingers tapping at a keyboard!
Why This Retreat Is So Special
The Writers’ Cabin emerged after decades of reflection on what makes a space feel conducive to creativity. The journey began back in 2002 when I worked directly for Alastair Sawday, a publisher known for celebrating special places to stay. In fact, I promoted a book while I worked at Sawday’s which compiled Europe’s most unique places to stay. From my experience of inspecting B&Bs and hotels, I learned how thoughtful hosting details can transform a simple stay into something unforgettable.
