Heating

Environmental sustainability is at the core of the Writers’ Cabin; from the hyper-local larch it is constructed from to the way the space is heated. The energy supply to the writer’s retreat is electric, powered by a solar array, air source heat pump and renewable electric supplier.

The Cabin is insulated to a very high specification which means it remains cooler in hot temperature and retains heat in the colder months. It is heated via an electric radiator in the lounge area. In the colder months, this is set to 19 degrees Celsuis and guests are able to modify the temperature settings.

The spa-inspired shower room is heated by underfloor heating, while the sauna is electric. This means that the indoor air quality for all spaces is excellent. This particular region of Wales enjoys beautifully clean air; the Writers’ Cabin is situated within the UNESCO Dyfi Biosphere, the only Biosphere in Wales. For that reason, we have not fitted indoor wood-burning stoves.

In particularly hot months, there is a small desk fan to keep writers cool – and for when the nights get a bit colder, we also provide hot water bottles and a woollen Welsh blanket.
