Reconnect with Nature at the Writers’ Cabin

Bathe in a thousand shades of green within the extensive garden surrounding the Writers’ Cabin. As well as providing a large lawn area, we’ve left some areas of the garden to meadow, and planted a rich variety of trees including:

  • Pear, Apple, Cherry and Goji Berry
  • Lime, Birch, Oak, Scott’s Pine, Black Locust and Hawthorn

The wildlife is particularly varied in this corner of the Dyfi Biosphere. At night, you might hear the distant hoots of owls from the nearby woodland and in the summer months, inquisitive swallows may flutter past your window to seemingly enquire how your work-in-progress is unfolding.

Other feathered friends you might spot with the binoculars which are provided in the desk drawer include: red kites; greater spotted woodpeckers; pied flycatchers; red starts; buzzards; ravens; storks and robins. Twenty minutes down the road, you can visit the Dyfi Osprey Project to see the nesting pair of birds who come to the Dyfi estuary each year.

The writer’s retreat itself was constructed out of larch which was felled from the field directly opposite. We processed each plank of wood on-site.
